2018 Audi SQ2 Testing without camouflage

Audi works very fast, after 2017 Audi Q2 presentation in Geneva already ready new 2018 Audi SQ2 who was caught driving circuits in famous Nürburgring. Maybe is not surprising decision to crossover be without camouflage because it has become a tradition that not many exterior and interior changes. Regular Q2 enriches the offer of the luxury crossover segment while SQ2 brings more power and more aggressive nature.

At first glance it seems that the designers of the German company had to do more in the outside field of S model, especially side skirts. But it seems that driving without masks just need to test the aerodynamics with increased power. In the market it is expected during 2017 as a model for 2018, and probably comes with $5,000 higher price then regular Audi Q2. We should not exclude the possibility to arrive earlier, perhaps even with Q2 in fall 2016.

2018 Audi SQ2 details

2018 Audi SQ2 Exterior

It became a bit boring to Audi says so little change between their models that they once difficult to distinguish. This time we can say that this is not the case. We will start from front fascia who have different twice tall air dam below the grille while corners air inlets act larger. The headlights and grille keep shape but probably grille would receive SQ2 badge and silver finish on the frame. The biggest disappointment will be side profile due to notice only rear quarter panel behind the doors and above waistline finished in black. Same black finish is used on roof.

My opinion is that there is room for improvement side skirts look because this is sportier S version. We leave open the possibility that the production model due to the aerodynamic testing might get something different before reach showrooms. Back side as the difference intensifies quad exhaust pipes and more elevated diffuser on the rear fascia. Also hatch act more sculpted while taillights same as headlights do not have changes.

2018 Audi SQ2 Interior

When talk about 2018 SQ2 interior should expect the same layout with brushed aluminum inserts, SQ2 logos and some S exclusive features. That means same dashboard with infotainment screen on top, round HVAC vents, same steering wheel with flat bottom and simplified center console. An important change will be adjustable sport seats with integrated headrests and why not massage support. Nappa leather and Alcantara will be used as a primary and offered in several color options. Also it is important to note 12.3 inches virtual cockpit display screen.

2018 Audi SQ2 Engine Rumors

We know that the new SQ2 crossover will have more power than the base Q2 but until the official information we can only deal with rumors. They said to expect same engine used in Audi S3 model. We are talking about turbocharged engine with 310 horses and 295 lb-ft of torque. Engine is mated to S Tronic gearbox and include quattro all wheel drive system. In the mentioned model acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) can be achieved for 4.7 seconds while top speed go up to 155 mph (250 km/h). New 2018 Audi SQ2 should provide acceleration around 5 seconds while maximum speed probably stay limited on same 155 mph.

2018 Audi SQ2 Release Date, Price

If Audi Q2 was a response to BMW X2 then new 2018 Audi SQ2 competition to be found in upcoming BMW X2 M version. Time between promoting basic Q2 and their sportier version will be short which is good news. Although there is no official information about the time of promotion it can happen at any time since the last test session in Nürburgring made without camouflage. About the price is still too early to talk about because we are waiting Audi Q2 to arrives in showroom in fall. There is speculation that the price before option could be around $29,000 which creates space for another up to $5,000 for new Audi SQ2.
