2017 Hyundai Elantra New Generation

South Korean company unveiled the beginning of the sixth generation in November 2015 at last American auto show in LA. New 2017 Hyundai Elantra on US market comes with the SE and Limited trim model. Sales start in February 2016 and the price is $ 100 lower than the outgoing generation. It is not the practice for any manufacturer of a particularly surprised the public with regard to the new engines and a new transmission. Next to powertrain changes include more modern and refined exterior and cabin that is technologically better equipped. Company all time best selling models obviously wants to be ahead of major competitors Honda Civic and Chevrolet Cruze.

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra redesign keep familiar shape but new generation come with new angle and body panel. Front is defined by more aggressive and bigger grille located between LED daytime running lights and HID headlamps. Fog lights with LED technology are located on the corners and placed in the vertical form. Nothing less aggressive definition is provided at the rear end of the vehicle with lower black fascia, LED taillights and small spoiler on tailgate. In making the new generation was used much more high strength steel (53 percent compared to 21 percents before) which means more rigid chassis, more bending strength and more stiffer torsionally. Coefficient of drag drop to 0.27 which provide better handling characteristics. New SE trim model include 15 and 16 inches wheels, while Limited trim include 17 inches wheels.

Old design will not be seriously changed. Increasing the length and width of more then one inch will mean more space in the cabin. Five passenger have at their disposal 110.2 cubic feet interior volume. On dashboard present rectangular A/C vents, 4.2 inches TFT display for instrument cluster and 7 or 8 inches touchscreen for infotainment and navigation system. Regardless of the size of the screen Hyundai provide Blue Link telematics system, HD Radio, SiriusXM, Siri Eyes Free and Android Auto. Standard 6-way adjustable driver seat come covered with a cloth, but leather is option.

2017 Hyundai Elantra New Engine

Under the hood will be a lot of changes that include two new powertrains. First engine is 2.0 L Inline-4 DOHC engine with 147 horses at 6,200 rpm and 132 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. This MPI Atkinson cycle engine with D-CVVT transfer power via six speed manual transmission to front wheels. Optional power can be transmitted via new six speed automatic transmission. The new transmission is standard on Limited trim model and include active ECO system. Next to ECO drive mode new Elantra have Normal and Sport drive modes that change over button on center console.

Base SE trim model with manual transmission consume 26 mpg in city and 36 mpg in highway drive, or 29 mpg in average. Same trim with automatic transmission  consume 33 mpg in average or 29 mpg in city and 38 mpg in highway drive. Limited trim have only six speed automatic transmission and consume 28 mpg in city and 37 mpg in highway drive (32 mpg average). Fuel tank capacity is 14.4 gallons in both trim model.

In some markets will be offered ECO package with new turbocharged 1.4 L 4-cylinder GDI engine. This Kappa engine delivers 128 horses at 5,500 rpm and 156 lb-ft of torque at 1,400 – 3,700 rpm. Power should be transmitted via dual clutch automatic EcoShift transmission with seven speed to front wheels. Fuel consumption is not published or speculate about 35 mpg in average.

Korean automaker Hyundai introduced new 2017 Hyundai Elantra in late 2015 at Los Angeles Auto Show. As the start of the sixth generation will be $ 100 cheaper than the outgoing model. Base trim model on American market is 2017 Hyundai Elantra SE which start from $17,150. The same trim with automatic transmission has a starting price higher for $1,000. Next to him will be offered Limited trim which price start from $22,350. Sales begin in the first half of 2016. The surprise for the US market will be Best Powertrain Warranty in class. They include 100,000 miles or 10 years. Hyundai assurance also include 24/7 Roadside Assistance for the first 5 years and 5 years or 60,000 miles new vehicle limited warranty.
