2018 Nissan Leaf second generation

New 2018 Nissan Leaf marks the beginning of the second generation. This electric hatchback has appeared on the market since 2010 and with its practicality made a boom in the market primarily of Western Europe. Since the beginning, the vehicle has been turned to convenience to take your item from one point to another, with as little cost as possible. Also, when talking about green cars, we must mention the protection of the environment that is getting more and more important. Perhaps we waited a long time for the next generation and it was more of a pressure to compete Tesla Model 3 and Chevrolet Bolt.

The second generation is largely on public roads. Camouflage is getting smaller and it is certain that we will see significant improvements in design. It’s great news that the first generation could not boast of a sporty design and Nisan has the capacity to do so especially when you look at other models that came out in the near past. Changes should be made by a new power drive with a new battery, and the redesigned chassis needs to provide a better electric range. For the end of the 2018 Nissan Leaf  model we are expected to present at the end of the year during Los Angeles Auto Show with price about $27,500 after incentives.

Green hatchback finally brings design improvement through implementation Nissan’s current styling features. The changes are focused on improving the sportier looks, because the current look can not be co-curved primarily by Tesla’s model. Test drive reveal a much larger grille in V-shape and angular and slimmer headlamps on front. Below company logo separated from the fascia is sporty bumper. Also can notice daytime running lights, slim vents in center and intakes at each corner. Above is nicely sculpted hood toward the fenders which fits nicely in new front design.

There is a change in the rear. First of all notice more conventional hatchback style. It include horizontal triangular units into fenders instead vertical taillights. Lower tailgate together with roof spoiler give the fins the right shape of true hatchback. The disadvantage could be a stay inflated rear bumper and fenders but the rest of things get out. A sporty character line on side and small quarter windows essentially changing things for the better in relation to the first generation.

2018 Nissan Leaf Interior

There is still no information on the media in the media, but external changes should be monitored with new design.  A new center stack, revised A/C vents and dashboard first seek refreshment. On other side instrument cluster can be shared with other models in Nissan lineup but with addition EV parameters (mileage and battery consumption). We expect the slightest change on center console because current already act enough simple and plain. Maybe should mention much passenger space if is possible. That could bring redesigned seats and slightly longer wheelbase. The new infotainment system and new door panels in sports look are something that the new generation model implies.

2018 Nissan Leaf Drivetrain

The first generation large sales was achieved primarily thanks to the excellent autonomy of the battery. The look is something that was not primary and it’s good that it changes for the better. However, the strong pressure from Chevrolet and Tesla is pushing the Japanese company’s engineers to push the boundaries further. First of all we mean announcements 215 miles of range for Tesla Model 3 and 238 miles of range for Chevrolet Bolt. In order to be competitive Nissan must go over 200 miles and that mean new drivertrain. In probably include not only new battery pack then new electric motor.

Current generation provide 107 horses and 210 lb-ft of torque and  the new generation could make a leap on 160 horses and 250 lb-ft of torque. A good solution could be two electric motors, but this is shy about it. We are expecting a confirmation few week before the presentation in Los Angeles. The next thing to think about is charging the battery. Current Leaf with an onboard 3.6 kW charger need 8 hours while with 6.6 kW charger need 4 hours. Larger battery means more time but not more then Bolt nine and a half hours via optional 240-volt charger system.

2018 Nissan Leaf Release Date, Price

Everything indicates that the ending has come to an end. The Japanese giant will most likely use the big  Auto Show in Los Angeles to introduce the beginning of the second generation. New drivetrain, sportier design and more features sheared with other Nissan models should be enough to keep pace with competing. The 2018 Nissan Leaf price is something Nissan will have to keep in mind. Recall current Leaf start from $30,680 which is very similar to Chevrolet Bolt ($37,495 – $7,500 tax credit). On other side Tesla Model 3 announces price about $35,000 which probably means around $27,500 after incentives.
